Why the revolution will not be tweeted

Det begynte med Marit Slotnæs sin kommentar "Samtalens tynne tråd" i Morgenbladet, om sosiale medier og hvorfor hun ikke deltar i disse. Hun opplever at sammenblandingen av offentlige og private samtaler forringer kvaliteten på begge. At det usedvanlige og originale blir uutholdelig trivielt. Kanskje riktig og ihvertfall tankevekkende.
Men denne kommentaren førte meg videre til noe enda mer tankevekkende. Et essay i The New Yorker hvor Malcolm Gladwell resonnerer (godt!) for at revolusjonen ikke vil bli twitret. Hvor det skilles mellom strong-tie og weak-tie connections, hvor det hevdes at "Al Qaeda was most dangerous when it was a unified hierarchy. Now that it has dissipated into a network, it has proved far less effective."
Hvis du er opptatt av social-media vs. social-change: Dette er verdt å lese.

The instruments of social media are well suited to making the existing social order more efficient. They are not a natural enemy of the status quo.
